a bit about barb
Barbara grew up in Westford and opened her portrait studio here 20 years ago. She has created her own unique style for her portraits stemming from years of study in the arts and from her life-long love of street photography. Her formal education was at Boston University School of Fine Arts and at The School for the Museum of Fine Arts / Tufts University. She has studied with master photographers Mary Ellen Mark, Eugene Richards and Ernesto Bazan. She has recently traveled to Cuba, Mexico and Sicily to continue her documentary studies. This year she will travel to Cambodia to visit her son and to teach photography to children through her non-profit organization The Nightingale Project. Barbara was Massachusetts Photographer of the year in 2004, 2007 and 2008 and has earned 8 Kodak Gallery Awards, 7 Fuji Masterpiece Awards and is a three time recipient of the Kodak Award of Distinction. Her personal project ‘faces’ is a documentary about every day life in her home town of Westford. She started the project in 1984 and is an ongoing project that she hopes to publish in 2012. She has directed 2 short films and has written three screenplays and currently directing a documentary. She loves to draw and is an avid art collector. Barb is the mother of three boys. Landon 29, lives in Los Angeles where he works on movies and TV as a grip. Currently he is in Cambodia working on his photographic documentary of the Cambodian people and teaching English and Science. Barbara and Landon traveled to Cuba together to study with Ernesto Bazan. Cameron is 16 and competes on three varsity teams - Cross Country, Wrestling and Track. He is currently a Life Scout and will be working on his Eagle project this summer. Connor is 14 and is a lacrosse freak! and a wrestler. He has a business stringing lacrosse heads and dyeing them!He is also an amazing abstract painter and attends life drawing class with his mom. Then there are the labs. They run the house of course. Stryder is a 5 year old yellow lab and a diva. It's hard to look that good all the time. Tobey is a 3yr old chocolate lab and has more energy that all of us together. Their day is not complete unless they have slept on every bed in the house.
